Following their acclaimed reunion last year, the surviving founding members of one of rock’s most influential bands, the MC5, come together again, this time in a co-bill at the Royal Festival Hall on 25 February 2005, with sonic jazz phenomenon Sun Ra Arkestra.

Combining hard rock, R & B and avant-garde jazz, the MC5 are revered by generations of rockers, from Rage Against the Machine to The Hives to The White Stripes. From their controversial debut, Kick Out The Jams, to the band's demise in 1972, they're credited as forefathers of everything from punk to metal to grunge.

For the gig at the Royal Festival Hall, with original members Michael Davis on bass, Wayne Kramer on guitar and Dennis Thompson on drums, vocals are provided by Lisa Kekaula of The Bellrays and Basement Jaxx fame. Davis, Kramer and Thompson now call the band DKT/MC5 as a mark of respect to differentiate it from the original line-up which also featured the late Rob Tyner and Fred 'Sonic' Smith.

Having promenaded through the packed hall in shimmering robes and gold helmets, the Sun Ra ensemble's visual impact was matched by one of the festival's most memorable performances, led by longtime member, alto saxophonist Marshall Allen.
